On one fateful day – August 13th, 1845 to be exact – Jackson High was founded. The school concentrated on the arts, but majored in many other things. Business, computers, medical – everything that could possibly be used in the fast-growing world of New York City. The school grew slowly, along with it’s reputation. The higher class - the ones that inhabited the city – took a fondness to the small school. Parents donated their folds of bills to Jackson High, which was happily taken and used. Whether they liked it or not, the kids here had to take their education seriously. Their parents, eager to see their little babies grow into lawyers, composers, actresses, and even presidents, were watching. So, forced to dig their noses into books, the students prospered, leaving graduation with their noses that were once pressed into books held high. Everybody envied the way they came out, ready to take the art world or business world by storm. But most of all, they hated the bragging. The Jackson High kids were known for leaving the school to brag about how much money they spent, how high their grades were, and where they were going next. So Jackson High’s once high ‘street cred’ became foul. Well, at least to the lower class. The friends of the scholars, on the other hand, begged their parents for a spot at JH, wishing they could be like their friends. And naturally, their parents gave in. But as NYC grew, more ‘average’ people inhabiting it’s buildings, the more ‘strays’ seemed to seep through the cracks. Now, at 2007, there are more middle class students at Jackson High then ever. Bringing their modern ways with them. Drugs, alcohol – all the things that the previous students detested. Some of the old students still remain, able to hold their noses high and scurry off to class. Yet some are tainted with the temptation of drugs. Some have given in. And most of their grades have plunged horribly low. Parents are confused and so are the teachers. Yet they know what has happened. Jackson High is fading fast. Teachers – the best teachers – are quitting. Parents are taking their students out. And the school that once was the best of the best is now the lowest of the low. And is about to be taken down. Can the students get their act together and help prevent the bulldozers from coming or will it all end? Jackson High. Welcome. |
